“The world’s US$71 billion battery market, once an old-tech backwater, is becoming a hothouse for innovation. The flow of U.S. venture-capital dollars into battery development has grown from US$4.3 million in 2002 to more than US$200 million this year, according to Dow Jones VentureSource.”
Ever since the App Store for the iPhone opened, with my phone rarely making it through an entire day without needing a charge refresh, it has been apparent to me the massive business opportunity that exists within the battery market. In many ways, the battery itself is the biggest bottleneck for the growth of true portable computing.
And this just for the consumer electronics space, to say nothing of larger applications such as automobiles, etc..
