Designer Tom Genoni offers up a quick tool for creating layout grids, with fine-tuned control over gutters and margins, and drag-and-drop placeholders for advertising units. Not the first of its kind, but slightly more robust than others. A great start.
So what do I do with the grid when I’m done? I can’t seem to save it or view the CSS or anything, even the link I sent via email just presented me with the blank starting point when I clicked it again.
I wondered the same thing. It appears to be a visual inspiration tool only. You need to construct the CSS manually.
I’m still waiting for the magnetized grid tool for the fridge (sort of like that ‘form a sentence’ thing). Maybe even incorporate IAB standard ad sizes too into the set of magnets?
I don’t understand why it’s so hard to make a grid-building tool… This sort of thing has been around in graphic design since the days of QuarkXpress.
I recently made a grid layout generator: http://gridinator.com/
I wish I had seen this before I designed mine, since I may have tried to do something a bit different. Mine looks a bit too similar for my liking.
Anyhoo! Mine does generate CSS for you, which is nice!
More features will come (I hope), but I just wanted to get it out the door and see if anyone would find it useful.
Hey, that looks very good! “all your grids are belong to us?” LOL! Bookmarked it!
