Hit in the Temple

Body

Media TempleThe folks at Media Temple have always been responsive and courteous when I’ve had problems, but I᾿m at the end of my tether with them right now. In case you haven’t noticed, access to Subtraction.com has been markedly unreliable since Tuesday, owing to a series of vaguely explained technical issues they’re having with my shared server — whatever the problems are, they refuse to subside. You’re probably reading this now thanks to a spell in which everything᾿s running fine, but if my experience this week has been any guide, you’ll be lucky to find the server responding in, say, forty-five minutes from now. It’s very, very frustrating. I’m pretty sure this is going to put me in the market for a new host provider next week.

I switched to DreamHost at the suggestion of many friends and colleagues. I've been very satisfied with them.

Tilted from Chicago is good too, plus their servers are like 1100 miles closer to your house ;)

Same here, I must have been on the same server, what a pain in the ass.

I have a bunch of hosts saved (Tilted being one), I'll send you them this weekend.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Raphy, I've actually been talking with a friend about signing onto Dreamhost. They have a crazy sale going on right now -- almost too good to be true, maybe?

I think I am on the same server as you. I have been experiencing random blinks in service and I put in a request ticket because the admin stats area gave me a 404. I got an email over 12 hours later and now - about 24 hours later the problem is still not fixed. I want to get out of my plan, but since it expires in Feb 2005 I would have to pay them more to leave. They charge the $18 monthly charge if you pull out early. I will be switching asap.

I'm with you! I switched last year to Segpub -- good price, personalable service and they actually return your e-mail.

I've had great reliability with Hostway (chicago) as well.

I work for a web development company, we host some pretty big sites, and we also use Dreamhost.

I don't like them, I don't know, you know when you just have a feeling about something? But to be both honest and rational they are excellent, and always reply to problems within an hour or so.

Fast, reliable, etc... when do I get my money?

A few years ago I got fed up with (mt) and switched to Dreamhost. I've had no major issues in that time.

Hey there, just make sure your new host is reliable, not overselling and willing to talk to you :)

I'd say, try their sales people, send a few emails, "try" their response times before signing up.

Cheers!

Bit late here, but I'd like to add another vote for SegPub. The best service an reliability of any host I've used. They go out of their way to be helpful, in fact they rarely sleep.

Yet another vote for Segpub. Jeremy helped me move over last year and since then I have almost had no down time. Choosing a dedicted host/server is crucial for good business IMHO. Once again go http://www.segpub.com.au
