You Can Go Home Again

Body

AIGA BaltimoreBeing from Maryland and all — I grew up in Gaithersburg — I’ve got a soft spot for Baltimore, for its cozy, rough and tumble neighborhoods, for that special ‘small town trapped in a big town’s body’ feel that it’s got, for the tarnished glory of the O’s. So it’s especially flattering for me to have been invited by AIGA Baltimore to speak for them in just a few short weeks. On Thu 21 Sep 2006, I’ll be appearing at Villa Julie College and giving a talk about work, play, NYTimes.com, and a little bit of my grand, unifying theory on design in the twenty-first century.

You can find out more about the talk at the chapter’s events page. And, for kicks, here’s the postcard that the chapter prepared to promote the date — it makes good use of my latest publicity photo, in all its absurd, squinting glory. Hope to see you in Baltimore!

Hope that I have the chance to get up there to see your presentation. Having kept a watchful eye on the development of NYTimes.com over the years, I am looking forward to hearing more about the work your team does and where you hope to be moving the field of online news design.

And the photo is not that bad. It's hard to do wrong an intriguing crop.

Khoi - you forgot to mention Bmore's status as the most "fit" city in America (see article) - ha! Looking forward to the event!

Hello from Uganda!

Yea MoCo! I went to Wootton, UMD-College Park, and then moved to Uganda.

As a technologist, I thought you might be interested in contributing to this debate about education/technology.

So I come into work this morning to find this email about an upcoming AIGA event. I open it and "Holy crap! It's Khoi." It's been a long time and you've come a long way since our days at SDG. It's probably been a year or more since I last visited Subtraction so it was news to me that you are at NYT. That is great and I hope the job is going well.

I actually work about 10 minutes away from Villa Julie College so if my schedule is clear I'm going to try and make it.

Take care,
Jason
