Design and Britain’s National Theater

National Theater Posters: A Design History

Rick Poynor’s new book “National Theatre Posters: A Design History” is the latest in a long line of covetable design tomes from Unit Editions. In 256 pages, it chronicles more than five decades of design work for an “enormous range” of theatrical productions, serving at once as a survey of design’s relationship with the revered institution and, the publishers claim, “a case study of the way the poster as a medium has evolved in Britain in the last half-century.” The book was designed by Spin and, judging from photos, is just stunning.
